It's clear that there is more to come and we can't wait to see what that will be. We'll certainly revisit Vector when the Alexa integration is live but for now Vector is a fun, robot companion with a mighty big brain. The Qualcomm processor inside is significant. This extra power boosts means that Vector can do a lot of things and while Anki is keen not to brand it a virtual assistant, whisper it, the things it can - and eventually will - do are very much what you would expect from the likes of Google Assistant and Alexa. And that’s a shame. While Anki made a name for itself through its robots’ Wall-E-like personalities and expressions, the underlying technology is equally impressive. One of the first companies to embrace artificial intelligence and machine learning in consumer devices, Anki started out with Unfortunately, you won't be able to get any free upgrades because Anki went out of business. The company that took their assets, Digital Dream Labs, now offers a fairly affordable subscription, but customers haven't been too happy with the latest update. When turned on, Vector has similar features and expressions to Cozmo. But where Cozmo got its interactions from a former Pixar bod, Vector's team was overseen by someone who used to work for DreamWorks. Its upcoming Alexa integration will be interesting as it will mean that Alexa essentially takes over the device - so if you already have Alexa in the home, it's inevitable that you will start using Vector even more.The Anki Vector has more tech than your Bluetooth-earpiece-wearing neighbour with the smartphone holster on his belt. It sees using an ultra-wide FOV HD camera and infrared laser scanner and it hears using a beamforming four-microphone array. It��s powered by a Qualcomm 200 platform and it has a high-res colour display to show its personality! We managed to get around 45 minutes of play out of the thing, then had to charge it for around 30 minutes to get it fully fit again. Vector will go to its charger if you tell it to go to sleep, though, so it's quite a seamless experience. We never played with it enough for it to completely run out of steam - this is definitely a toy to interact with for a little while then let it do its own thing. Movies of the past promised us that, a couple of decades into this millennium, we’d have robots smarter than the glorified toasters they’re passing off as ‘robots’ these days. Where’s our equivalent to R2D2, huh, future? Oh, actually, it’s right here in the form of the Anki Vector Smart Robot!

When roaming around the area, it would sometimes see our face and just speak our name, getting excited while doing it. There's a huge amount of charm and personality in this thing. Behavior Logging - see what the Escape Pod heard on each voice command via the web interface; enabling advanced debugging of behaviors. Firmware Management - easily upload firmware images to the Escape Pod for storage and flash them directly to a connected robot during the onboarding process. Putting in these powerhouse animators shows how much making Vector feel like a real-life member of the family is important to Anki.
