I repeated these tests a couple of more times using another pot (part of another test to be published later) and confirmed similar results. The tests of the Soto yielded an average time to boil of 2:43 using 9.5g of fuel vs the PRD with an average time of 2:34 using 8.875g. We make every effort to make sure our product descriptions are as detailed as possible, but we understand that sometimes, things just don't fit as expected, or the colour just wasn't what you were expecting. Another huge advantage of the WindBurner 1.8 L is its modularity. You can use the same stove base for the 1 L WindBurner cooking pot. The 1 L cooking pot plops onto the WindBurner’s base just as well as the giant 1.8 L pot. This means you can convert your group system to a solo or couple’s system without having to buy a whole new integrated canister system. The 1 L WindBurner cookpot is 2/3rds the price of all the least expensive integrated systems we considered, so choosing the 1L accessory pot offers some cost savings if you’re ok with the weight. Versatile: Pot’s insulated grip allows it to serve as an eating and drinking vessel; pot lid doubles as a strainer; bowl is hot- and cold-safe

With the PR D, whilst I think it would be foolish to not to take any other form of lighter, so far I haven't needed one - and that's impressive. Warning: Reading this article is not a substitute for reading the directions! You’re responsible for your own safety so PLEASE read the instructions on your stove before use. The WindBurner also has an insulated sleeve and handle. Although these are minor additions, they give it a much more user-friendly design than the Reactor.

Tent Series

To ensure its durability, we routed the wire up through the stove body so there’s nothing hanging on the exterior of the stove that could catch. In addition, the electrode igniter is set deep within the burner cup for maximum protection. Some municipal recycling centers can accept a crushed isobutane canister, but not a full fuel canister. This is their way of making sure that they are getting relatively clean metal instead of an exploding fuel can. Thus, it is essential to crush gas canisters before recycling. Unregulated canister stoves often suffer when the temperatures drop and/or you have low fuel in your canister. We will keep customer information safe and secure and will not distribute or sell this information to a third party. The Soto Windmaster stove is a reliable and easy-to-use stove that provides excellent performance in any weather conditions. It is an ideal choice for adventurers who want to prepare meals on the go.

We highly recommend the SOTO WindMaster w/Micro Regulator and 4Flex (One Size) for your cooking needs. Its 4 Flex Support design allows it to fit large pots, and its regulator is compatible with gas mixtures such as butane, isobutane, and propane. To use the canister crushing tool, first, make sure that your can is empty before attempting. It can be dangerous to pierce if there’s gas still inside. Read directions before you attempt this. The second major feature is that the PR D has a built-in pressure regulator. This means the stove should not experience a drop-off in performance as your gas canister gets emptier, or when it is colder. MSR doesn't seem to give a minimum temperature for the PR D, but from past experience with other pressure regulated stoves like the Mighty Mo, and when using an 80/20 isobutane/propane gas mix, it should work fine to at least a few degrees below freezing. I'm sure I will happily use the PR D through the British winter. But a well-designed pressure regulator helps the stove manage those adverse factors so that you experience more consistently fast boil times. This means that on warm days, colder evenings and everything in between, you’ll enjoy a fast, hot meal. Built around the same technology as the award-winning MSR Reactor, the WindBurner shares many similarities with that designed-for-mountaineers stove. The windproof burners on the two stoves are similar, but the WindBurner is designed to use fuel more efficiently with several features that make it more tailored to ease-of-use than the utilitarian Reactor. It’s also significantly less expensive than the Reactor.

Best for: Ultralight travel during a wide range of seasonal conditions, including colder conditionsPatagonia boasts that the wood-burning stove has the benefit of not creating additional trash, like empty fuel canisters. Wood burning stoves also don't rely on fossil fuels to run, instead using a sustainable abundant renewable source. There are pros and cons to each approach and my goal in this section has mostly been to just point how how different these stoves are, not necessarily to suggest that any one of the design features is better than the other. So, I will simply highlight here how the designs may affect usability and you can determine from there if you think it matters to how you think you will use the stove. Adventures in Stoving liked the MSR 1.8 L WindBurner over the similarly-sized option available from JetBoil, although he finds the weight hard to justify if you don’t see wind in your future.

Both of these stoves do have micro pressure regulators. Most stoves do not have pressure regulators; this is a complex little bit of machinery and so only found on premium stoves, like each of these. The pressure regulator is a valve design that attempts to keep the flow of fuel constant, irrespective of the pressure within the fuel canister. The pressure of the fuel canister decreases as the canister gets cold or as the canister empties. As a result, standard stoves will not perform well in the winter conditions and suffer measurably as the fuel gets closer to empty in the canister. The WindMaster’s regulator is also compatible with gas mixtures such as butane, isobutane, and propane, but is not compatible with 100% propane. Plus, you’ll want to keep the base of the WindMaster clean and always keep the plastic cap on the gas canister when not in use. Get the most out of your outdoor cooking experience with the SOTO WindMaster w/Micro Regulator and 4Flex. In 2017, we introduced the remote-canister design, in which the stove is remotely connected to the canister by a fuel line. This new design supports larger pots and is available in the WindBurner Duo System,Group System and Combo System. The most significant of these features is the Deluxe’s built-in pressure regulator. This component is one of the secret sauces behind our two bigger powerhouses, the WindBurner and Reactor system stoves. A pressure regulator ensures the stove delivers consistently fast boil times across a range of conditions. The regulator’s job is to minimize the detrimental impacts that environmental factors like cold temperatures have on a stove, keeping the flame burning strong through it all.Even if you can’t recycle your canister, trash services prefer crushed cans to ensure that there is no remaining flammable material alongside other trash. A vented can free of fuel is preferable to a non-crushed can regardless of where it goes after you’re done with it.
