I was totally surprised by how everything played out and commend the author on her great writing and characterisation. It tool me a little while to get into this excellent thriller and might have given up if I was not already a Dorothy Koomson fan. I stormed through this book in a day as I couldn't put it down until the secrets contained in the twisty plot revealed themselves.

The book was thrilling from the very beginning, when Jude and Nell panicked over the sight of the body and seeing Nell still actively working on it twenty-five years later gave it a sense of urgency, a cold case finally being solved. There are a lot of subplots in the book, too, including racial tensions between Nell and Macy's family, and the Police. Também não percebi muito bem a panca do Dalton; quebrar a vontade e o espírito de jovens e torná-las submissas, vá, não é novidade, mas para quê?I don’t want to say anything more about this because I feel the impact will be even bigger when you read this for yourself.

When Nell and Jude find a body on the beach after sneaking out of their houses to go to a party, neither one could imagine the far-reaching consequences it’ll have on them and their families’ lives. Even knowing where they were both coming from and sympathising with them, I found both the sisters incredibly hard to connect to. I read half the book in one sitting and when it got to the evening and the sun went down I felt scared. The story is told from two perspectives – sisters Nell and Macy – and across a time span of 25 years. Ao saber que haveria mais um livro da Dorothy Koomson não resisti: precisava de ler e saber como estava a escrita da Dorothy. Update - unfortunately our beautiful mermaid, Paxtonea, in Vale Park was damaged but the community is rallying together and we hope that she can rise again from the ashes soon*. This brilliantly written book has put Dorothy Koomson firmly onto my radar and I very much look forward to reading some of her other work. m. after sneaking out to attend a party without their parents permission when they discover the body of a dead young woman on Brighton beach.
